Should a Christian mom work?

When my oldest was born, I worked as a bank teller.

It was terribly hard to leave my new baby. My heart wanted to be with him 24/7.

On several occasions in the church nursery, while struggling to breastfeed my new precious baby, some well-meaning mommas, upon hearing that I worked, would say something like...

"Bless your heart. That's hard on a family. It'll be better for everyone when you're able to stay home."

And so, as soon as I could, I did just that.

Fast forward several years & three more kids later, I knew God was calling me to a very special work.

However, I kept that buried deep, as I wrestled mentally with how to work AND be the best momma for my boys.

You see, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God has called me to both homeschool my children AND bless + encourage other mommas through my photography work.

But I had boxed myself into an idea of what I thought it meant to be a "good Christian" mom...

I thought... You either worked -or- you mothered.

And while you COULD do both, SHOULD you? And could you do them both WELL?

[See what I mean about wrestling with my thoughts?]

Isn't it neat how in different seasons of life, scriptures seem to have new personal meaning?

Since my teenage years, I have often referred to Proverbs 31 as my guide to Christian womanhood.

It was in this very chapter, that God gave me clear direction & peace about how to combine all the things He has called me to do!

His Word showed me how to love my family AND my work... I now see how the two compliment each other, rather than compete.

Since then, I have fully embraced all that it means to lean into my purpose in this season!

When you book your session, I’d love to hear what THREE WORDS would you use to describe the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31 that you hope to be as well.
